Hi all, and Happy almost-Halloween! I hope everyone stays safe but still manages to have some fun tomorrow. We plan to do some drive thru trick-or-treating, party a little at home, and maybe even venture out to a haunted maze in our small town. My kids are looking forward to it.
Though it feels somewhat strange to talk about my summertime book during the fall (especially with all the nasty weather we’ve had lately), here I am doing it again. But I have good reason this time because today is a super special day in my journey to publication: IT’S THE COVER REVEAL DAY FOR NOT OUR SUMMER!!!
That’s right. My book has a real cover, created by a super-talented artist named Monica Garwood. Seriously, take a look at her Instagram–she’s amazing!
The really cool thing about my cover design process is that I got to have some say in it, and this isn’t common with big publishers from what I hear. But my agent is awesome and she was able to get me a “cover consult” clause in my contract, and I actually came up with the initial idea of what you’ll see below. Of course, Monica and my team at Running Press put their spin on things, and I think it all turned out wonderfully.
FYI: my cover was officially revealed earlier today through YA Books Central. If you go to that post, you can enter the giveaway for one of three early copies being given away by my publisher!

Amazing, right? I still get a little emotional every time I see my two characters–K.J. and Becka– brought to life through art, and they turned out even better than I first imagined them.
